HST image of NGC 7027

HST image of NGC 7027 captured by the Wide-Field Planetary Camera on the Hubble Space Telescope. This visible-light image is dominated by emission from the very-hot gas being thrown off of the central star. The majority of the bright emission seen here falls within the ring that is so prominent in the new Gemini image. This is because primarily because the near-infrared Gemini image is sensitive to cooler material which rests at a greater distance from the central star.
